Qualifications to be a surrogate

Becoming a surrogate is a big decision, and we want to make sure it’s safe, healthy, and the right fit for you and the intended parents. Here are the basic qualifications:

Health & Lifestyle

  • Must be between 21–42 years old

  • Have had at least one healthy pregnancy and birth

  • Be raising your own child(ren)

  • No major complications in previous pregnancies

  • Live a healthy lifestyle (non-smoker, no illicit drug use, minimal alcohol)

Medical & Legal

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  • Have a healthy BMI 19%-32%

  • Willing to undergo medical and psychological screenings

  • No history of serious mental health conditions

  • Must live in a surrogacy-friendly state

Personal Qualities

  • Reliable, responsible, and compassionate

  • Supportive home environment (partner/spouse support if applicable)

  • Willing to commit to the surrogacy journey 12+ months and follow medical guidance

  • To qualify, you must typically:

    • Be between 21-43 years old

    • Have a BMI between 19-34%

    • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident living in a surrogacy-friendly state

    • Have had at least one full-term, uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery

    • Be a non-smoker, have no drug or alcohol use, and no significant mental health concerns

    • Be a US Citizen or Permanent resident

    • No pregnancy or delivery complications

  • Surrogates typically earn between $65,000 and $95,000 in total compensation, plus additional benefits like a maternity clothing allowance, embryo transfer fees, and more. We will provide a detailed compensation package so you know exactly what to expect.

  • The entire journey can take 12 to 24 months, including application, screening, matching with intended parents, medical clearance, legal steps, the pregnancy, and delivery.

  • Yes! We want you to feel completely comfortable. You’ll be presented with profiles of intended parents, and you can meet them before deciding if it’s the right match. Both you and the intended parents must agree to move forward.

  • Absolutely. We offer one-on-one support, guidance, and advocacy from your first inquiry until after delivery. You’ll never feel alone in this process.

  • No. All medical expenses, travel costs, legal fees, and related surrogacy expenses are fully covered by the intended parents. You will need to have a current PAP and OB Clearance that you are responsible for before becoming medically cleared.

  • Yes, IVF requires surrogates to take medications to prepare the body for pregnancy. These may include hormone injections and other prescribed medications. Our team will guide you and ensure you’re fully supported.

  • Surrogacy is a serious commitment, and we encourage you to ask all your questions and take your time before making this decision. Once legal contracts are signed, all parties are expected to follow through with the process.

  • Yes! Many surrogates and intended parents form wonderful, lasting friendships. The level of communication and connection is something you’ll discuss and agree on during the matching process.

  • Yes, but your IUD must be removed as soon as you are matched. IVF clinics usually require 1-3 menstrual cycles after IUD removal before medical screening can be completed.
